I have upgraded my Wordpress blog from Wordpress 2.7 to 2.8 and I lost my WYSIWYG TinyMCE editor. I have verified this now that this has happened just because I have chose the auto-upgrade option. I have gone through some google search and after that tried installing WP 2.8 on my local machine as fresh copy and it just worked well without any problem as I was able to find WYSIWYG editor working just well as before.
I tried to drill-down problem into little more and I found that following URL does not seems to be returning anything:
http://blogs.digitss.com/wp-includes/js/tinymce/wp-tinymce.php?c=1&ver=3241-1141 which has caused the real trouble. The reason behind it was that wp-tinymce.js.gz file was missing under wp-includes\js\tinymce directory.
Placing wp-tinymce.js.gz from my local directory to live has immediate impact and Wordpress WYSIWYG TinyMCE started working well.

I was stumped on this as well. I discovered the problem was with Google Gears caching a broken version of the Javascript in http://blogs.digitss.com/wp-includes/js/tinymce/wp-tinymce.php?c=1&ver=3241-1141. I didn’t even have to reboot, just went into Google Gears and removed my site from the list of sites that Gears is enabled.

Thanks for the suggested solution. What I did was to delete and reinstall the tinymce plugin and then wait for about 3 hours. I read in another site that sometimes we have to wait for a few hours. Your technique was definitely much easier. But before I decided to wait, I tried everything suggested online and failed to get tinymce to immediately work.

Basically if in case it is required we may just need to press CTL+F5 on our browser to get the javascript reloaded.

Hi, This problem is not specific to those who have installed Google Gears.. I haven’t installed Google Gears..
This was something wrong with the Wordpress auto-updater which was causing this problem by not copying JS file while upgrading from older version.

This randomly happened to me way after I had upgraded, so I’m not sure what that’s about, but I did F5 on my MacBook, and that fixed it.
