goo.gl – URL Shortener from Google

goo.gl - offers another URL Shortener..!

goo.gl - offers another URL Shortener..!

hey don't click these short urls goo.gl/aV8T or goo.gl/wX0r, why.! are they bombs? No they are just short urls....um.......what?

If everyone is having their own then how Google can be behind in the race..! Just kidding. Yes, but the fact is Google - The search engine giant has introduced another product from it's Lab offering URL Shortening service - goo.gl. Yes, it's integrated with your Google account and you can see the history and hits for all the URLs you have shortened. It has many other features along with Google's rock solid server farms. (Google offers 100% availability of goo.gl service)

Many a times while using a URL shortening service we worry about 3rd party website/service's availability, because if that service is unavailable at the time when user clicks on the shortened URL we are gone. Thanks to Google for adding one more helpful service.

Few days back I read a post from Dylan Tack about "URL Shorteners Must Die", I agree to Dylan's concerns regarding security and spamming on this but when a giant like Google is jumping into this I am sure security and spamming will be taken care well and I think such attempts will be punished too..! Following screen-shot describes it's effect on Blogs@DiGiTSS; we are happy to know that impact is positive if one updates content frequently. (The large red-dot represents period when Caffeine went live)

Google Docs

Google Docs Viewer

I was looking for a way to let users see Microsoft Word Doc or PDF files online while using my application without leaving their browser without downloading files and then opening it to view with Word or PDF viewer. I was looking for some way out either via any PHP or Microsoft.NET libraries, did some googling on that; but later on I just got an idea that google already has all code written for me.. when I have any email attachment in PDF or DOC or DOCX google does it for me..! Even while searching I can see PDFs by converting them in HTML. So I just googled it up and found that Google already has this ability that we can use Google Docs Viewer without any Google Account Login. YES that's true no Google Account login is required. It's damn simple and easy. Just pass document path as attachment as parameter and we are done.
